Mexico's environmental enforcement agency Profepa suspended operations at a Santacruz Silver property in Zacatecas state.
Profepa announced a temporary closure order at the plant in Vetagrande municipality, citing inadequate atmospheric emission controls.
The company also failed to present an environmental permit, equipment maintenance registers or an inventory of atmospheric emissions, Profepa said.
Equipment to neutralize acidic gases from the plant was not working, according to the release.
Profepa did not specify what asset the closure order applies to.
Santacruz has access to a 500t/d mill producing lead and zinc concentrates as part of a 30-year mining and exploration agreement for the Veta Grande and Minillas silver-gold-zinc-lead properties in Zacatecas state, owned by local company Minera Contracuña, according to information on Santacruz's website.
Santacruz also has the Rosario mine in San Luis Potosí state. No-one from the company was immediately available to comment.
