The Mexican government, through the president of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, asked the Ministry of Labor (STyPS) to review the safety protocols in Canadian mining companies.

“I asked Marath, the Secretary of Labor, to increase inspections and to thoroughly review them because it cannot be that here (Mexico) some (safety) standards are applied by Canadian companies and in Canada others are applied,” said the president on Friday at her press conference.

Last week, an accident was recorded in a mine owned by the Canadian Torex Gold, in which there were human losses.

Separately, the president also said that the government will review the concessions for open-pit mining.

“We need to review the particularity of how the constitutional reform was left,” said the president.
