Natural resource company Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold (FCX) has appointed three new members to its board of directors.
The newest members include James Flores, vice chairman of the FCX board and CEO and president of FCX LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of FCX. Flores is also a member of the newly formed Office of the Chairman. Previously, he served as chairman of the board, president and CEO of independent oil and gas company Plains Exploration & Production Company. Flores has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas business.
Also elected to the board is Alan Buckwalter, former chairman of JP Morgan Chase Bank, South Region, from 1998 to 2003. He also served as president of Texas Commerce Bank-Houston from 1990 to 1998 until it was acquired by JP Morgan.
Also serving on the board is Thomas Fry, retired president of the National Ocean Industries Association, a position he held from 2000 to 2010. Prior to this position, he served as director of the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management and also as director of the Minerals Management Service.
The FCX board of directors consists of 15 members, 11 of whom are independent.
