After passing through a thick sequence of overlying post-mineral cover rocks, the drill hole entered the target basement rocks at 593m. Unfortunately after drilling only 10 metres into promising-looking intrusive rocks, excessive water flow prevented any further advance by the drill, and the hole was terminated at 603m.
This is the second hole that has been attempted into the La Tortuga porphyry copper target with both holes being prematurely terminated due to difficult drilling conditions. After entering the target zone, both holes intersected strongly hematite-altered and brecciated granitic rocks with quartz-hematite veinlets. Assays from the first hole contained encouraging elevated values of precious metals, base metals and other pathfinder elements. Assays for samples from the second holes are awaited.
Azure will consult with drilling companies to determine the most appropriate drilling method and equipment to ensure success at its next attempt.
