US copper major Freeport-McMoRan has ordered more than €10 million of Metso tankhouse material handling equipment for its El Paso electrorefinery in Texas.
Finnish manufacturer Metso is supplying its Outotec anode preparation and cathode stripping machines, which use modern robotic electrode handling. This is expected to help optimise layout and material handling efficiency in the refinery.
“We are confident that our technology will ensure high efficiency and quality of copper production in the El Paso copper electrorefinery after the modernisation,” Metso hydrometallurgy vice president, Mikko Rantaharju, said.
“The solution will combine our long-term experience of similar equipment with modern robot technology to fulfill the material handling requirement of the existing tankhouse.”
