Vancouver, British Columbia – Cortez Gold Corp. (the “Company”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jose Antonio Berlanga Balderas as Chief Executive Officer of the Company and a member of the Board of Directors.

Mr. Berlanga is a graduate of the National University of Mexico with a degree in Mining and Metallurgy. He is currently CEO of Reyna Mining, S.A. de C.V., a full service company that offers planning and construction services and provides operational control for exploration, mining and milling projects. In his 37 years of experience in the resource sector, Mr. Berlanga participated in Minera Autlan as Mine Superintendent of a high-tech underground mine, General Manager of Minas Nuevas, a gold heap leach operation, Servicios Industriales Peñoles, S.A. de C.V., one of the largest mining companies in Mexico, where his experience ranged from evaluating exploration projects to planning and constructing Peñoles’ mining operations, and the development of several mining projects in Mexico including El Oro – Tlalpujahua, La Negra, Rosario, Morelos Sur, El Barqueno, Malpica and Tototlan del Oro.

From 1994 to 2000, he gained invaluable knowledge of the deposits and mines in Mexico while serving as Technical Subdirector of Fideicomiso de Fomento Minero which is a state company promoting mining in Mexico as well as offering technical and financial assistance to mining companies. He was also the past President of the College of Mining, Metallurgical and Geological Engineers of Mexico and a partner in Internacional de Metales Preciosos, the largest gold and silver trader in Mexico.

Mr. Berlanga’s appointment follows the resignation of David Gunning as a director of the Company and prefaces the work to be completed to launch the Company’s much anticipated gold-silver processing plant in Matehuala, Mexico.

“We welcome Mr. Berlanga as Chief Executive Officer of the Company with full authority for the final stages of construction and eventual operations of the Altiplano Goldsilver processing plant,” said Robert Eadie, President of the Company. “His extensive experience in all aspects of mining operations in Mexico, as well as his network of associates in key agencies and institutions, will prove invaluable as we move Cortez forward as a significant player in Mexico’s resource industry.”
